On 13th February 1976, Mavelikara Rotary club was chartered and admitted to the Rotary International. The Charter President was Rotarian (late) Rony T Daniel and Charter secretary Rtn (late) P T Thomas. The club was part of the then Rotary district 321, which included Srilanka also. The Rotary District Governor at that time was Rtn T.D. Arunachalam. The club was sponsored by the Rotary club of Alleppey. There were 23 members at the time of the charter.
The club regularly met at the building at Nadakkavu, belonging to the Charter president Rony T. Daniel. In 1996, a society was registered with the name Mavelikara Rotary Community Centre, in which the membership was limited to only members of Mavelikara Rotary Club. This society procured around 30 cents of land in 1998 and a building with a hall was constructed in 2000. Since then, the Club meetings are conducted in this hall. An extension to this building was completed in 2007.
R.C. of Mavelikara has sponsored four clubs R.C Chengannur in 1980 and Rotary club of Kayamkulam in 1988, Rotary club of Mannar in 2014 and Rotary club of Kattanam in 2021.
Rotary club of Mavelikara has completed several projects successfully, listed below are few major ones:
- Pulse polio vaccination for the children in every year since 1980
- Hepatitis B vaccination for more than 2000 children in 1988
- Public address system in Mavelikara Railway station,
- Waiting shed at Kunnom
- Traffic signal system at Mitchel junction,
- Water supply and sanitation projects at Sanskrit UPS Thazhakara, Govt UPS-Anjilipra, Govt Girls’ High School, Mavelikara and M.S.S High School Vazhivadi
- Toilet block in the Govt. Girls school Mavelikara.
- Constructed a snehaveedu for one needy person
- Incinerator & water purifier for Govt girls school, Mavelikara
- Provided steel chairs for the ladies waiting room as well as platform in Mavelikara railway station.
- Conducting Geriatric clinic every Saturday from 2000 to 2015 and providing free medicines and free Diabetic check up
In addition, the club has supported many weak patients for their treatment and many poor girls for their marriage, with financial aid and is continuing to do so. Currently the club is sponsoring the fees of one Medical student.
Rotary club of Mavelikara is entering its 50th year in 2025 – 26 and will be celebrating this year as the Golden Jubilee year. As part of the celebrations, the club has many service projects on its drawing board and a grand finale on the charter anniversary on 13th February 2026.
